- 1The David G. (named after the inventor, David G. Norton) is the ultimate hot weather cocktail, but it can be enjoyed all year round (if you can find the ingredients). It is not too sweet and not too sour, but it is a cornucopia of flavor bursting with fresh, citrus notes and crisp, bubbly effervescence. Very refreshing!
- 2This recipe was inspired by the classic Mint Julep and a great experience Dave Norton once had with Bacardi Limon. It coincidently has more than a passing resemblance to the Mojito as well, but this recipe was dreamed up before Dave ever heard of the Mojito. Special thanks for developing this recipe go to Dave's wife Gabriele, his mother-in-law Isolde Werle, and his great friends Will and Stella Ristom for their patience and feedback while playing guinea pig during the numerous experiments in perfecting the blend.-In a chilled 15-16 oz. cooler or long drink glass, muddle the syrup, mint leaves, juice and pulp from the 1/2 lime, and lemon zest. Note: for best results, break and partially tear the mint leaves first to release their flavor and facilitate the muddling process.
- 3-Add Bacardi rum, triple sec, lime juice, and bitters.
- 4-Fill glass approximately 2/3-3/4 full of cracked ice and stir briskly until the glass frosts.
- 5-Almost fill glass with ginger ale and stir gently to mix ingredients throughout (including mint).
- 6-Float a bar spoon of dark rum on top.
- 7-Garnish with a slice of lime and a mint sprig (allowing the mint to protrude from the top).
- 8-Stick your nose right into the mint while drinking and take a deep breath to enjoy the mixed aromas of the lime, mint, and rum...it doesn't get any better!
